Pathway Shadows

Pathway Shadows

Artist's Statement

Pathway Shadows is a concept that evolved from my walks down the Blackstone Boulevard pathway near my residence in Providence RI. In late April and early May of this year, I experienced bold and enigmatic shadows made by the leafless tree limbs that line the pathway. With the convenience of an iPhone I became enthralled with capturing the many images that were before me. I soon realized that these newly framed images had a curious and profound relationship to my paintings and process over the past years.

My bold use of lines, textures and colors often depicted shadow like images within them, adding meaning through a narrative of shadows along one’s life pathway. It was an epiphany to my process. Below are some of the photos I took and several pieces that resulted and were recently on display at ArtProv Gallery in Providence. http://www.artprovidence.com/. In addition are several of the paintings that will be in the ‘My Pathway Shadows’ Clad in exhibition.

More information about my artist career can be found on my website https://www.kensteinkamp.com/.

I hope you will have an opportunity to view my show at Clad in. It is a unique setting for me to exhibit, with its aesthetic blend of artful fashion clothing, shoes and accessories. In the coming year I will be curating additional bi-monthly exhibitions to continue this unique and exciting blend of art and fashion.

I look forward to your experiencing artwork in this unique setting.

Works on Paper

Works on Paper

I like the feel of paper as I draw.
My intent is to create depth and enigma, applying a variety of materials including:
ink, graphite, tar, pastel and texture paste, in a bold lyrical style.

Occasionally, I edit older pieces; tearing them up into more defined images,
or working over them.
Lines and layers.

My thanks to Coastal Contemporary Galleryhttps://www.coastalcontemporarygallery.com/ for the opportunity to showcase several of my recent artworks for the Step in Time exhibition. Because of the Covid – 19 pandemic, this exhibition will be a virtual one and available on line https://www.instagram.com/tv/B-2sp2zn1Ak/?igshid=ffaug4zwlwo4. Selecting the pieces for this exhibition began several months ago when I found several pieces that resonated with the theme, including Timed Exposure VI, and Between Then and Now. They stood out because of their richly layered, textual, enigmatic and reflective surfaces.

Early last month I was in the process of completing my newer pieces, when the world became ensnarled by the Covid -19 crisis. This development profoundly altered the creation of the paintings, Intervention and Distance. Expressively using my style of mixed media, color, texture, lines and layers, I endeavored to capture Covid- 19’s challenges and make them aesthetically relevant to Step in Time.

I encourage each viewer to virtually experience the timely relevance of this exhibition that features myself, Karen Dolmanisth and Gunner Norquist, in the month in April. Many thanks to curator Owner/Director Shari Weschler for making this experience possible.
